A 31-year-old man set his mother's house on fire after she told him she would kick him out if he didn't get a job. According to authorities, the man left after setting the home ablaze, but he returned later and said he used a cigarette lighter to ignite the living room couch because he was angry over his mother's demand that he find employment.
Ricardo A. Nance Jr. was booked late Friday on one count of arson and bond was set at $20,000.
Nance's mother, Christina Ross, was at her daughter's house next door about 9 pm Friday when she saw that her house was on fire. She asked her son what he had done, and he ran, according to arson investigator David Hill.
Hill said the house, which was valued at more than $50,000, was a complete loss.
