A South Korean man set himself on fire after he received a $300 fine for disturbing the peace.
He is listed in critical condition at Uijongbu hospital, according to an emergency room physician.
A district court upheld a fine the man received in 2004 for acting out at a mobile phone sales center. He had been demanding a new phone number, reports Reuters
After the verdict, the man apparently went outside and poured heating oil on himself. He then went back into the courtroom and set himself on fire, a court official said by telephone to Reuters
The man received third-degree burns over much of his body. He was taken to a burn center in Seoul, said a doctor at Uijongbu hospital.
"His life is on the line," the doctor said.
