A man was arrested after he started shooting at the fire crew who refused to rescue a cat from a tree.

Jeffrey Cullen, 58, was filed four felony counts of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, according to Mohave County Sheriff's spokeswoman Trish Carter.

A fire crew had gone to Cullen's home after reports of a tree fire, but there was none, Hualapai Valley Fire Department spokeswoman Sandy Edwards told the AP.

Cullen then told firefighters he had wanted a cat rescued from his tree and knew they would only respond to a fire call, Edwards added.

The battalion chief then instructed Cullen to inform animal control or just bide the time till the cat to got hungry and came down on its own.

Cullen was apparently angered by the response, Edwards said.

"He went back into the house, got a small black revolver and came outside shooting," Edwards added.

The firefighters and a 12-year-old boy who had gone to look at the fire truck fled for their lives, Edwards said.

There were no reported injuries.

Cullen was then arrested after a short standoff and struggle.
