A 25-year old British man, who says he is haunted by voices, including that of Freddy Krueger, the fictional character from the film "A Nightmare On Elm Street", tried to bite himself to death while being detained at a psychiatric facility in southern England.

Daniel Gonzalez is currently standing trial for the murder of four people. His lawyers state Gonzalez suffers from a mental illness, and that voices in his head commanded him to kill. Prosecutors say Gonzalez attempted to kill 10 people in order to achieve notoriety as a serial killer.

Lawyers for Gonzalez argue he should only be found guilty of manslaughter through diminished responsibility, because his auditory hallucinations led him to stab two men and two women to death.

Jean and Derek Robinson, Kevin Molloy, and Marie Harding died during his three-day killing spree in September 2004.

Gonzalez's first attempt in killing himself is when he tried to bite himself viciously while taking a bath inside the Broadmoor Psychiatric Hospital. In a second incident, he tried biting himself in the arm, targeting his arteries.

Gonzalez denies four counts of murder, but he has admitted the attempted murder of two people who survived being attacked by him in London and Portsmouth.
