A man who cleverly tried to escape the drunken-driving charge eventually landed himself in further trouble after he called the same person for help whose identity he had faked. Sebastian Nabor, 28, was charged with criminal impersonation for using his brother's name to avoid a DWI (Driving While Intoxicated) charge.
According to authorities, Sebastian was arrested driving early Sunday after an officer saw him hitting the curb. On closer approach, the officer smelled alcohol and found an open container of beer in the car, the Texarkana Gazette reports.
Sebastian, who at the time identified himself as Antonio Moreno Nabor, failed several field sobriety tests, and breath test showed a blood-alcohol level of 0.11, three points higher than the Arkansas' legal limit.
Nabor was arrested and charged with DWI, at which he called his brother to bail him out. The hoax was foiled only after the real Antonio Moreno Nabor provided the officers with identification papers for Sebastian.
Citing several similar cases to the Texarkana Gazette, De Queen Police Chief Richard McKinley said using false names is very common especially if there are arrest warrants issued against them or they owe fines.
"We do background checks and try to do the best we can to catch the people," he said.
