-Pensacola police say William L. Wright, 47, and about 40 other people had gathered along the train tracks Monday to watch a fireworks display over Pensacola Bay.
Police report spectators scrambled from the tracks after hearing the train's horn and seeing its lights.
Wright fell backward, despite one bystander's attempt to help, and was hit by the train.
The 44-car train was traveling west at about 40 mph, traveling from Jacksonville to New Orleans.
Two other men were struck by debris from the accident and suffered minor injuries.
