Police say a 49-year-old man who allegedly beat his grandmother and great aunt to death 30 years ago has married an 87-year-old woman.
Frank Czumalowski married Radmila Dobrijevickan in Bridgeport, Connecticut on Tuesday.
Instead of their honeymoon, the couple went to court where the groom was sentenced to 2 1/2 years in prison for violating his probation. He was convicted of sexually assaulting his 12-year-old stepdaughter from a previous marriage.
In 1977, Czumalowski was found not guilty by reason of insanity for beating his grandmother as well as beating and stabbing his great-aunt to death as they prepared Easter dinner. He buried their bodies beside rose bushes in the yard, police say.
About six years later, Czumalowski was released from a state psychiatric hospital, reports the AP.
Czumalowski's new wife defended him for nearly an hour in court. "He didn't want to kill a bug on the porch, I had to use my velvet slipper to kill the bug," she says. "He is a very unlucky person, I hope I will have a good life with him."
Czumalowski's lawyer, Rob Serafinowicz, defended the odd marriage.
"Who are we to judge?" says Serafinowicz. "Throughout history there have been odd couples and things worked out well. In this case, all we can do is wish them the best and hopefully, with good behavior, Frank will be out in a year."
