A man who pretended to be a station attendant and "sold" gasoline to drivers for $10 a tank was arrested by Police after an employee of the gas station got suspicious of the theft.

According to a report by the Associated Press, Police said that Joseph K. Boulware, 41, dispensed 450 gallons of gas from a gas station in West Baltimore using a magnetic key which needs a code.

During the May 19 theft, Boulware used the key and code to place a pump on standby mode, allowing him to dispense gasoline unnoticed.

Police believe that Boulware had worked for gas testing companies, thus obtaining the key and code from there.

Mohammad Mehtabdin, manager of the Citgo station where Boulware was arrested, said a $71 charge for pump No. 8 showed up on the register inside the Citgo caught sales associate Francis Okondu by surprise.

Okondu, Mehtabdin and three other employees confronted the man.

"He tried to run away, but we surrounded him," Mehtabdin said. Police recovered the key from a cracker box, and seized $335 in cash and two purple vials containing rocklike substances that Boulware "had in his possession," police said.

He was charged with theft, assault and possession of crack cocaine.
