Jacksonville, Florida (AHN)- A man who took a lawyer hostage and threatened to blow up a building over a grudge with a judge was sentenced Friday to 20 years in prison.
Carrying a 9mm handgun in an envelope, John Knight managed to sneak into lawyer Christopher Hazelip's office in the Riverplace Tower last August, posing as a Justice Department agent.
He held the lawyer hostage for three hours, demanding the resignation of Duval County Judge Sharon Tanner, who, five years earlier, had sentenced Knight to spend a day in jail after a domestic violence case.
Hundreds of workers and about 45 toddlers in a day care center were evacuated and the standoff ended after Tanner pretended to resign on live TV.
