Maybe the passenger with 700 snakes in his carry-on bag hadn't seen the movie "Snakes on a Plane," before he tried to board a flight from Egypt to Saudi Arabia on Thursday.

Authorities only discovered the snakes after airline staff asked him to open his bag before he boarded the flight. The man complied with the request, but warned the airport employee not to get too close. Inside the bag were 700 writhing snakes, including two deadly cobras.

He told authorities he was taking the live cargo to Saudi Arabia to sell for a tidy profit. The smuggler said that Saudis like to put snakes on display glass jars, use them as pets or sell them to research centers.

Police arrested the man and turned him over to Egyptian authorities for prosecution on illegal smuggling and export of live animals along with endangering the lives of his fellow passengers.

No value was placed on the snakes that were confiscated.
