A record number of Singaporean couples got married on Friday, as they think the date, 20-05-2005, indicates togetherness and prosperity, reported Reuters.

According to report published in Straits Times, 116 couples were married and this is the record number so far this year.

"We are both Teochew, and in Teochew, zero sounds like circle, which symbolizes completeness," said 27-year-old bride-to-be Evyon Tan as saying, "Also, five sounds like 'to have', and we hope to be happy and prosperous when we begin our married life," she said.

Teochew was originated in the Guangdong province of China and has become one of the main languages spoken in Singapore.
