A mayor in a small town in Texas was forced to resign after being accused of illegally keeping her neighbors' dog.
According to Rudy Gutierrez and Shelly Cavazos, owner of Puddles, Grace Saenz-Lopez, mayor of Alice, had agreed to take care of their Shit Tzu while they went on vacation.
However, a day after the couple left, Saenz-Lopez reportedly called to inform them the dog had died. Three months later, they spotted Puddles at a dog grooming parlor.
Gutierrez and Cavazos said they went to the court to reclaim their dog but then, the mayor herself went to the police to report that the dog, now named Panchito, was missing.
However, a TV crew found Puddles at the home of Saenz-Lopez twin sister, Graciela Garcia about ten miles from Alice. Garcia claims a stranger just dropped the dog off her home.
"She loves the little dog... They had left the dog with her to take care of it. She took it to the doctor. She decided if she gave it back it would die," said Saenz-Lopez's lawyer Homero Canales.
Saenz-Lopez, who had been mayor of Alice since 2003, was charged with two counts of tampering with physical evidence, while her sister was charged for allegedly concealing evidence.
