McDonald's Corp. wins an infringement lawsuit against a small Malaysian restaurant called "McCurry."
The open-air eatery serves spicy fish-head curries, tandoori chicken and other Indian dishes on a street corner in Kuala Lumpur.
McDonald's argued during the five-year legal battle that customers might confuse "McCurry" with the fast-food chain.
The judge said, "The defendant's use of the word McCurry and employing signage featuring colors distinctive of the plaintiff's was indulging in acts that could rise to confusion and deception."
The restaurant was ordered to drop the "Mc" from their sign. However, state news agency Bernama says the curry house plans to appeal the ruling.
It contends that "McCurry" is merely an abbreviation for "Malaysian Chicken Curry."
