Two women get their just desserts after stopping at a drive-thru for an apple pie. The manager of a McDonald's restaurant called police Tuesday after the women, whom employees say were acting strangely as they ordered the pies at a drive-through, struck the side of the building with their pickup. When officers arrived, they found Heather Amber Anderson, 24, inside the restaurant and behind the counter trying to open a cash register. Police tell the Associated Press that Anderson used to work for that McDonald's before being fired two weeks ago. Investigators said Anderson was unsteady on her feet and her speech was slurred. He charged her with public intoxication and possession of marijuana and drug paraphernalia. Outside, the driver of the pickup, 41-year-old Neeica Jean Mull, also appeared intoxicated and told police she had taken prescription medication. She was charged with driving under the influence.

A new British survey indicates, Big Macs are plentiful where the increasingly obese poor live. Researchers discovered that for England and Scotland there is a strong correlation between neighborhood deprivation and the presence of Mickey D's restaurants, but obesity is not connected to the fast food chain or any others.

McDonald's is adding a new item to its menu in Japan: the shrimp burger. The sandwich was unveiled on Friday and will go on sale later this month for 270 yen ($2. 40). It's the latest effort by the Japan unit of the U. S. fast-food chain to win over Japanese customers and spark sales. In a move away from the Big Mac, McDonald's also said that other products were under development, including a grilled chicken sandwich, crispy and grilled chicken salads, and mixed berry yogurt. The shrimp burger developed especially for Japan is a bit similar to the Filet-O-Fish, except it's filled with shrimp.
