Police arrested two men who wheeled a corpse in an office chair through the streets of Manhattan, with an attempt to cash in the dead man's Social Security check.

The pair, David J. Dalaia and James O'Hare, pushed the chair that contained the body of 66-year old Virgilio Cintron from the two men's apartment in Manhattan, to the Pay-O-Matic, a store that cashes checks. They pushed the corpse for one block, according to witness testimonies reported by the police.

According to Paul Browne, police spokesman, witnesses spotted the two pushing chair, "with Cintron flopping from side to side and the two individuals propping him up," as quoted by the AP.

Dalaia and O'Hare, both 65, entered the Pay-O-Matic, leaving Cintron's body outside, and attempted to cash the $355 check. The person in charge asked them where the body was, and the two responded that they would go and get it.

However, the body in the chair started to draw the attention of people, including a police detective having lunch.

The detective reported the two to police officers on duty, who then arrested O'Hare and Dalaia.

A report from the medical examiner revealed that Cintron had died of natural causes within the last 24 hours.

Browne said that Dalaia and O'Hare were both charged with check fraud.
