Girl Survives 7-Story Plunge From Apartment Window

An 8-year-old girl survived a seven-story fall from an apartment window with broken bones and organ damage, but will likely live to tell about it.

New York Police say Destiny Antonio fell out of her bedroom window while her family was sleeping at about 1 a.m. Friday morning. The window did have a guard on it. The family lives in the Castle Hill section of the Bronx.

Air-Powered Batteries In Development With IBM

PC maker IBM is holding a meeting with researchers at its laboratory in San Jose, California in August to discuss the development of a battery powered by air or oxygen as it bids to become a major player in the electric vehicle market.

The meeting at the Almaden Research Center on Aug. 26 to 27 will assemble experts from nanotechnologists to chemists who will look into the promising alternative to lithium-ion batteries.

Colorado Man Coughs Up Nail Lodged In Nose For 30 Years

A Colorado man coughed up a nail that doctors say may have been stuck in his nose for 30 years.

Prax Sanchez went to the doctor complaining of pain under his right eye. The doctor ordered an MRI, whose magnetisms seems to have dislodged the inch-long nail from Sanchez's sinuses, local TV station KKTV reported. On his way home, he coughed the nail up, much to his surprise.

Aside from high unemployment rates and home foreclosures, there is another emerging indicator of how badly hit is the United States by the recession and the global financial crisis. It is the growing number of boats being abandoned by their owners.

Like mortgaged homes, the derelict vessels are difficult to sell at a time when the American economy is down, prompting some owners to default on their boat mortgages or abandon the vessels. Some boat owners, reeling from other expenses, now find it heavy on the pocket to maintain their water toys.
