A Mexican priest who killed his secret son so his superiors wouldn't find out he had a child has been sentenced to 55 years in prison.

Prosecutors said on Thursday that Rev. Dagoberto Valle Arriaga had confessed to killing his son two years ago, but didn't say how old the son was.

No details were released about the mother. Valle had served as a Roman Catholic priest in a small town east of Mexico City.

The priest kidnapped his son on Sept. 14, 2005 and took him to north-central Mexico where he killed him, according to the attorney general's office.
