Officials from Miami Beach, Florida are exploring ways to outsource new sand from foreign beaches after the usual methods of replenishing the beaches has dried up.
New beaches from where sand could be exported include the shores of Dominican Republic, the Turks and Caicos Islands and Mexico, the Christian Science Monitor reported Wednesday.
Earlier the officials tried to make a deal for sand from up the coast in St. Lucie County, Florida resident strongly opposed the idea of losing their sand.
Experts fear that if the beach faces one more hurricane this season they would have no other option but to depend on an external source for the sand. An official from the Miami-Dade County Department of Environmental Resources Management, told the Monitor. "We're the first county that's essentially run out of sand. Broward County to our north is right behind us."
"They've probably got one more project and they're going to be out," he added.
