He was not laughing and the court was not joking when the St. Joseph County District Court on Wednesday sentenced a 20-year-old man posing as the 'Joker' to one day in jail and 16 hours of community service, after pleading guilty to a misdemeanor charge of malicious destruction of property.

Spencer Taylor was charged with trying to steal a poster of the Batman movie "The Dark Knight," at a movie theater lobby on July 27. At the time Taylor was dressed as the "Joker" character, the main villain in the latest installment of the Batman franchise.

The man was wearing the costume of the fictional character of Joker comprised of a purple suite, green wig, and a face paint, when he was arrested by the police hours after the crime.

Taylor entered a plea with the court where he was sentenced a day in jail, to perform 16 hours of community service and a $685 fine.

However, charges of attempted larceny in a building and disguising his identity using the Joker mask in the commission of a crime, were dismissed by the court as part of the plea bargain.
