A Farmington Hills, MI man was killed while saving his pregnant wife and unborn child during a freak accident outside the library.

Hong Kong native David Shu-Kin Kwok was run over by the couple's mini van after getting out to assist his pregnant wife who had fallen while trying to get into the vehicle. In his rush, Kwok forgot to put the parking brake on and the vehicle and both he and his wife, Erika Kwok, were struck by the vehicle.

In a desperate attempt to keep the vehicles back passenger tire from running over his wife, David Kwok, 35, braced himself against the front of the vehicle. The tire did run over his wife, who was 7 months pregnant.

The accident happened in front of the book deposit box outside the library. A witness rushed over, put the van transmission into park and shut off the engine.

But it was too late for David Kwok, an information-technology technician, who was trapped under the vehicle and declared dead at the scene. Erika Kwok was hospitalized in fair condition, while her unborn child was reportedly uninjured.

The couple's 23-month-old daughter was strapped into her car seat in the vehicles back seat and was not injured.
