The "miracle" woman from Egypt, who gave birth to septuplets on Saturday, hopes to soon be able to hold her newborn babies, doctors said Sunday.
The 27-year-old Ghazala Khamis delivered four boys and three girls, who are reported to be in stable condition, at the el-Shatbi hospital in the coastal Egyptian city of Alexandria on Saturday.
The babies weigh between two and three kilograms (4.4 to 6.6 pounds) and the couple already has three girls, ages 7 to 11.
The mother, who was given a blood transfusion during the Cesarean section due to bleeding and is now in a stable condition, said on Sunday that she is "very anxious" to see her new born babies.
Since the news of her giving birth to seven babies, who are premature at eight months, spread the hospital has been swamped up with news reporters.
Khamis said she has already seen them on television and they "are very cute."
The reports said the couple were surprised after they were told about the multiple pregnancy after they sought fertility treatment hoping to have a boy.
The health minister of Egypt has reportedly pledged to supply free milk and diapers for the newborn seven babies, which are very rare, for two years.
