A 6-foot-tall pet kangaroo that ran away from its owner's house in rural central Indiana on Friday and remained at large for two days died Monday just few hours after it was captured. The cause of death is still under investigation but the marsupial's owner alleges it died of an overdose of the tranquilizer.
The animal control officers captured Skippy the Kangaroo early Monday morning, not far from its owner's home, after setting it unconscious with a tranquilizer.
"When our officer left the scene, it was still alive and coming out. It was recovering," Kenny McConahay, an officer with the Greenfield/Hancock County Animal Control Department said adding that the amount of tranquilizer the officer used was only half of the recommended dose.
"The owners were advised to take it to a vet," he told the Indystar.com.
It was not immediately clear if the kangaroo had eaten anything undesirable during its escape.
