A fishing pier hailed as the longest pier in North Carolina, is about to become a thing of the past thanks to rising real estate prices and a divorce settlement. The Long Beach Pier is slated to be torn down sometime in February, along with its tackle shop, motel and restaurant after closing Saturday.

A man accused of hiding lottery winnings of $30 million Canadian dollars from his ex-wife strikes a deal to pay her a share of the prize. Nynna Ionson, a former stripper who is now a single mother of four living on social assistance, sued for half of the jackpot, claiming she was still romantically linked to Ray Sobeski when he won one of Canada's single biggest lottery jackpots.

Two New Mexico motels are the vicitims of a bear break-in over two consecutive days: one in a Raton motel Monday; the other sabotaged a Taos Ski Valley motel. Officials say the bear that broke into the Raton motel was probably lured by the smell of fresh popcorn.
