Prosecutors in Michigan charge a mother with involuntary manslaughter after her baby died from drinking breast milk laced with cocaine.

The Associated Press reports Sara Shelby allegedly used cocaine and then passed the drug to her five-month old baby through her breast milk.

Shelby's defense attorney says that his client does not believe that cocaine caused the death of her baby last year.

Initially, sudden infant death syndrome was thought to be the culprit. The samples were not tested until recently because no foul play was suspected.
