A mother left her 7-year-old son sleeping in a sports utility vehicle for about an hour late Monday night while runnin-up a $14 tab, drinking at a local bar.
According to police reports, Kathryn Stough, 33, of Plantation, Florida, cracked the window of her SUV three inches, leaving her son, unharmed and sleeping, in the backseat on an 85-degree, humid night.The doorman at the bar noticed Stough making frequent runs to her car between drinks and called police after he approached the SUV and saw the child.
Stough arrived at the bar around midnight, officers were called to the scene around 1:10 am.
Stough was arrested on child neglect charges. The child has been placed in the custody of other family members.Stough was being held Tuesday on $1,000 bond.According to the Sun Sentinel newspaper, in January 2004, Plantation police arrested Stough for driving under the influence and cruelty toward a child without great harm.
The cruelty charges were dropped and she pleaded guilty to misdemeanor drunk driving charges, lost her license for five years, and was sentenced to nine years probation.
