The daring mountain lion that entered an Idledale couple's home and killed their dog early Sunday morning was trapped and killed Tuesday.

Reports say the lion entered the home through French doors that were left open. Two dogs slept in the bedroom with Mack and Jacquie Anderson, and Jackquie awoke upon hearing a scuffling to see a dark shape she knew was an animal that was not her own.

The big cat fled the house with the couple's 12-year-old yellow Labrador retriever, Scout, clutched in its jaws.

The pair called 911, and authorities found the body of the dog buried in the brush behind the house where the Anderson's have lived for 32 years.

Mountain lions commonly stash their kills and later return to eat them, so Scout was left and used as bait. The 130 lb. cat returned for its kill Tuesday, and was trapped and shot.

Mountain lions usually prey on deer, or smaller animals such as coyotes, porcupines, and raccoons. According to National Geographic, statistically, only four attacks by the endangered wild cats yearly in the U.S and Canada, and one fatality.
