Ten people including three children were safely rescued by a fishing vessel in Aleutian Islands after being trapped as a volcano erupted, spewing rocks and ash. According to U. S. Coast Guard Petty Officer Levi Read, 10 people were rescued south of the Okmok volcano on Umnak Island.

A Colorado hiker lost in southern Germany's Bavarian Alps for almost three days used her white bra to signal for help and it led rescuers to the ledge where she was stranded. Jessica Bruinsma, 24, was hiking with a friend near the Austrian border on June 16 when she lost her way due to bad weather and fell to a narrow ledge.

Coffee made from beans that have passed through the bowel of an Indonesian jungle cat is being sold by a department store here for $100 a cup. The coffee, called Caffe Raro, is made from a blend of a rare Jamaican Blue Mountain coffee, and another, Kupi Luwak, which is harvested from the droppings of civet cats.

small, single propeller airplane was forced to make in emergency landing on a street in northern Scottsdale due to mechanical problems with the aircraft. Motorists were in for a surprise when the airplane landed on Lone Mountain Road in northern Scottsdale, chosen by the 35-year-old pilot for its lack of traffic and remote location, when he and his 19-year-old student co-pilot were forced to land unexpectedly.

In an attempt to raise awareness for HIV, homelessness, and in support for the medical use of marijuana, a man has been traveling across the United States on his bike, all the while pedaling backwards. Starting last August in California, 36-year old cyclist Curan Wright has been cycling backwards through different states, with his navigation based solely on his peripheral vision.
