The world's biggest diamond in 13 years went on sale on Wednesday in the Belgian city of Antwerp. The successful bidder, for the gem that was mined in Lesotho, shall be named by the Antwerp Diamond Centre on Monday. Dubbed "Lesotho Promise," the owners found it hard to give the monetary value of the piece. To get the price of a diamond rock, traders need to know how many cuts can be made out of it. The 605-carat diamond is about a third bigger than the size of a golf ball.

A novelty company in Snodnonia, north Wales has been awarded a $38,000 Millennium Award to convert sheep droppings into greeting cards and gift items. The BBC reports that Creative Paper Wales was awarded the contract for its Sheep Poo Paper project. The company will collect droppings from surrounding mountains in the region then sterilize it using pressure cookers and recover the washed and undigested fibers.

When Canadian police pulled over a man driving about 60 miles above the speed limit Wednesday, the man, who was from Switzerland, explained he was taking advantage of Canada's goat-free roads. Local police said it was the first time they've heard an excuse involving goats. The traffic officer's notes read, "A motorist from Switzerland, used to driving around hills and mountains, takes advantage of the ability to go faster without risking hitting a goat. "

Paragliding Lands Man In Minefield

An Israeli man was stuck in the middle of a minefield near the Syrian border Saturday after his parachute apparently crashed. The man was severely injured in the accident. According to rescue services, the unidentified man took off from a peak in the Golan Heights and drifted east toward the Syrian and Jordanian borders before crashing in the minefield, injuring his legs and breaking several bones.

Italy's parliament speaker is being criticized for sending a birthday card that gushes over Cuban leader Fidel Castro. Fausto Bertinotti, a veteran communist, says in the letter to 80-year-old Castro, "Long live the Dear Comandante. " Castro has been recovering from stomach surgery he underwent two weeks ago. He has temporarily handed power over to his brother Raul.
