Bradenton-Based Harry Potter Gets Interview Requests And Calls

August 2, 2007
Each time a new Harry Potter book or movie is released, a 78-year-old man from Bradenton, Florida is inundated with interview request calls because he happens to share the same name with J. K. Rowling's fictional character. The retired Defense Department employee from Zaleski, Ohio, doesn't seem to be a fan of the boy wizard, as he hasn't had time to read any of the J. K. Rowling books or see the five hit movies. Potter, who often gets interview requests from the TV networks and autograph requests, says he has not been able to keep his phone off the hook since past few weeks. His wife Jan often jokes with the late night crank callers telling them he (Potter) is "busy, out flying. "

Sta. Ana Town In Northernmost Tip Of The Philippines, A Place Progress Has Forgotten

July 21, 2007
We arrived in the town of Sta. Ana in Cagayan Valley, the northernmost tip town in the Philippines at 3 a. m. in the morning. The first thing we noticed was the eerie sound of the place, or better yet, the lack of any sound of life. There were no lamp post and all we saw was darkness. The only light available was emanating from the vehicle we were using. We drove for another half an hour and still all we saw was darkness, we didn't see any houses or any other living soul. For someone who has lived in the city all his life, the environment in Sta. Ana was a strange one to me. I came from the capital where the city never sleeps and that has been the case even in some provinces I have visited, this is the only town I have been to where all I heard was the sound of silence even at that hour of the morning.

Nearly a dozen 7-Eleven convenience stores will wear a new face replicating the famed Kwik-E-Marts from "The Simpsons" cartoon. Kwik-E-Mart, which was designed in the show to poke fun at 7-Eleven Inc's more than 6,000 North American stores, features unhealthy snacks like Buzz Cola, KrustyO's cereal and Squishees -- a spin off of 7-Eleven's Slurpees.
