When Simon Luffman paid off his wife in their divorce settlement, little did he know that the same money would be used for his own murder. The man's wife, Yvette Luffman and her new lover reportedly used $2,000 from the settlement money to get Luffman killed. According to The Daily Mail, Luffman, 39, was killed in 2003 by Thomas Convery, who is now sentenced to life in prison. Yvette Luffman and her lover, Wayne Briscoe, were sentenced Wednesday to a minimum of 20 years in prison.

Two Australian teenage girls, accused of murdering a 16-year-old girl, giggled in the courtroom when the Supreme Court judge pronounced their names wrong. West Australian Supreme Court Judge Geoffrey Miller reminded Valerie Parashumti, 18, and Jessica Stasinowsky, 19, of the seriousness of the situation after hearing them giggle.

Police arrested the ex-boyfriend Saturday of an off-duty police officer who was gunned down as she left a memorial service at a community center. The arrest of Quartus Lee Hinton, 28, for investigation of murder, followed a day-long manhunt in the San Francisco Bay Area, the AP reported.

A man accused of running down 18 people with his SUV was found competent to stand trial Wednesday due to a change in psychiatric medication. Omeed Aziz Popal was arrested on Aug. 29 and has since been confined to the psychiatric ward of San Francisco General Hospital as he awaited trial.

A 43-year-old woman was arrested Friday for attempting to poison her sister and her sister's boyfriend with sandwiches laced with poison, police say. The woman's live-in sister called police and said she had found rat poison in her sandwich and in her boyfriend's sandwich. She said it wasn't the first time she found poison pellets in a sandwich, either.
