A 12-year-old girl faces attempted murder and aggravated battery charges after trying to run a police officer over with a car. According to local authorities, a Polk County Sheriff's deputy fired several shots at a 12-year-old girl who attempted to run him over with a car.

In the latest way of violence attributed to Islamic separatists, a Thai couple throats are slit, the impact of which was so hard, their heads were nearly severed. Jad Suwanchatri, 52, and his wife Serm, 51, stopped their motorcycle on Friday, to clear a log from a road in Yala province. Assailants ambushed them, shooting Jad, and then cutting each of their throats. The couple's dog, traveling with them in a sidecar, was also slashed to death.

A search of Carl Franklin King's car turns up quite a surprise for Florida deputies: six live gopher tortoises in the trunk. As if the discovery were not unorthodox enough, King's reason for possessing the amphibians sure raise quite a skeptical eyebrow -- as the main ingredient in soup.

James A. Ross, 23, seems to have trouble letting go of his criminal past, which include arrests for posing as a firefighter and a mortician. On Sunday, he was arrested once more for pretending to be an appliance repairman and soliciting work from two residents at The Woodbury Manor Apartment complex. He was charged with misdemeanor disorderly conduct, which carries a maximum one- year in prison.

According to a local paper, two Yadavs, a cow-herd caste just above Dalits, forced a government school to stop serving the federally mandated lunches after they found out Dalit women had been hired to make the rice puddings. The women were considered "untouchables. " Indian officials are investigating reports that villagers stopped a school giving lunch to its students because lower caste Dalits, or untouchables, cooked the desserts.
