A 78-year-old man from Fountain Valley, California reportedly stabbed and injured his 68-year-old wife with an ax after the couple had an argument a day before. Police have charged Abdel Herbawi with attempted murder after he allegedly attacked his wife with an ax as she prayed at their house on Monday. If convicted, Herbawi, who is being held at Orange County Jail on $1 million bail, could face life in prison. The charges on him include torture, domestic battery and aggravated assault.

A Russian immigrant living in Virginia was beaten to death with a rock on Thursday when he declined to buy some religious CDs offered to him. The incident took place at a highway rest stop in New Jersey when Brian K. White, approached Michail Makerenko,77, as he was standing by his car. According to reports, White wanted to sell a religious CD to him but Makerenko declined to buy it saying he doesn't need any. This apparently annoyed White, who picked up a rock and struck Makerenko in his head causing fatal blows. White then fled in his white Camaro but was followed by a witness and caught after a 90 mile chase by police.

Two inmates who held a guard for hostage in a smoke-free prison said they would go back to their cells if the officials presented them with tobacco. Howard Carlton, warden of the Northeast Correctional Complex said the two inmates Billy Grubb, 32, and Bradley Johnson, 25, attacked the guard Monday night and held him hostage for six hours.

A Romanian Orthodox priest and four nuns were sentenced to prison on Monday for their roles in the death of a 23-year-old nun in a crucifixion exorcism ritual in the cellar of a church. 23-year-old Sister Maricica Irina Conici died in June 2005 after spending three days tied to a cross with no food or water during an exorcism ritual designed to cleanse her of the evil spirits the priest and nuns believed possessed her. Conici survived several days without food or water, but died of dehydration, exhaustion and suffocation.

When Simon Luffman paid off his wife in their divorce settlement, little did he know that the same money would be used for his own murder. The man's wife, Yvette Luffman and her new lover reportedly used $2,000 from the settlement money to get Luffman killed. According to The Daily Mail, Luffman, 39, was killed in 2003 by Thomas Convery, who is now sentenced to life in prison. Yvette Luffman and her lover, Wayne Briscoe, were sentenced Wednesday to a minimum of 20 years in prison.
