Traditionally, typhoons were cursed natural phenomenon that people pray would never hit their region. However, in the Philippines, a country hit by an average of 25 destructive typhoons annually, weather forecasters, and even the government, were praying that the typhoon slated to hit the country before changing course would turn back and hit landfall. Nathaniel Cruz, chief weather forecaster of the Philippine Astronomical, Geophysical and Seismology Administration (Pagasa), said that tropical typhoon "Chedeng" was supposed to hit northern Philippines this week, but it changed course and is now headed towards Taiwan.

We arrived in the town of Sta. Ana in Cagayan Valley, the northernmost tip town in the Philippines at 3 a. m. in the morning. The first thing we noticed was the eerie sound of the place, or better yet, the lack of any sound of life. There were no lamp post and all we saw was darkness. The only light available was emanating from the vehicle we were using. We drove for another half an hour and still all we saw was darkness, we didn't see any houses or any other living soul. For someone who has lived in the city all his life, the environment in Sta. Ana was a strange one to me. I came from the capital where the city never sleeps and that has been the case even in some provinces I have visited, this is the only town I have been to where all I heard was the sound of silence even at that hour of the morning.

Nearly a dozen 7-Eleven convenience stores will wear a new face replicating the famed Kwik-E-Marts from "The Simpsons" cartoon. Kwik-E-Mart, which was designed in the show to poke fun at 7-Eleven Inc's more than 6,000 North American stores, features unhealthy snacks like Buzz Cola, KrustyO's cereal and Squishees -- a spin off of 7-Eleven's Slurpees.

A 2-year-old boy miraculously survived a perilous ride in his mother's pick up truck that rolled down through several embankments, trees and structures before coming to a halt against a chain link fence. It wasn't clear why the pickup started rolling. The incident happened Sunday morning when the boy's mom was loading a mattress into the pickup's bed while the toddler sat alone in the cab, Yavapai County Sheriff's spokeswoman Susan Quayle told the Miami Herald.
