Professional golfer Jeff Johnson is confused over the robbery of nearly 4,800 fluorescent yellow golf balls from a suburban Kansas City golf course on Monday.

Johnson, who heads the Sunflower Hills Golf Course, said it would have taken someone hours Sunday night to pick the balls up from the range. The balls were lying there scattered after being hit earlier in the night.

According to AP reports, police are wondering if the act was a theft or an expensive prank. However, if the culprits try to sell the balls, worth $2,700, the crime is considered a felony.

"That or they are some really bad golfers who need some range balls to practice with - a lot to practice with," Johnson said.
