Washington, D.C. (AHN)-- Scientists have decided that a recently discovered monkey is different enough to be classified into a new genus.

The monkey lives in Tanzania and was previously listed in the genus lophocebus. This classification includes the Mangabey.

After closer scrutiny, researchers now believe the monkey known as 'Kipunji' is more closely related to some types of baboon. However, it is anatomically different from baboons.

A research team led by Tim R B Davenport of the wildlife conservation society suggests, in the Science Express, that Kipunju should be placed in the newly created genus rungwecebus.
