The new state slogan chosen by New Jersey residents is "New Jersey: Come See For Yourself."

It beat out choices such as "New Jersey: You Got a Problem With That?" and "Expect the Unexpected."

Residents cast some 11,227 votes via telephone and online for five final entries, including "Love at First Sight" and "The Best Kept Secret."

Governor Richard J. Codey created the contest for a new slogan after disagreeing with a marketing company's submission of "We'll Win You Over." He says it reminds him of when he was single and asking girls on dates.

New Jersey is often associated with odor-causing pollution and heavy traffic on the turnpike. Codey says he aims to change that image.

"Our catchphrase should hint at our true beauty," Gov. Richard J. Codey said.

The five final entries were chosen out of some 8,000 submissions, including "Most of Our Elected Officials Have Not Been Indicted.""

State transit agency worker Jeffrey Antman created the winning slogan. He will get two tickets to a New Jersey Nets or Devils game and a two-night stay at a golf resort.
