immy Clark, a New Zealander from Blackmount, set a new world record by shearing 560 sheep in just eight hours; beating the previous record of 495 sheep by Hayden Te Huia, set in 1999.
The record-breaking feat happened on January 23 at the Wairaki Station near Blackmount. 30-year-old Clark's average was one sheep sheared for every 51.43 seconds. Members of the World Sheeping Shearing Records Society attended the event.
Prior to setting the world record, Clark trained for 10 months and followed s strict diet and rigid exercise program in order to be fit for the shearing challenge. This is the third time Clark has gone after the record, after trying in 2006 and 2007.
