Elwood, a 2-year-old Chinese Crested Hairless and Chihuahua mix has been crowned as the "World's Ugliest Dog."

Elwood was just few days old when he was rescued by Karen Quigley of Sewell, N.J. from a local breeder, who was about to get the canine euthanized because he considered it too ugly to be chosen as a pet.

"I think he's the cutest thing that ever lived," Quigley said of her pet that has not only won a prestigious title but also earned his owner a $1,000 reward.

Most of the Elwood's fellow competitors at the annual fair were also Chinese Crested Hairless, a breed that features tufts of fur on paws, tail and flowing hair on head.

Other included those with bug eyes and long, wagging tongues.

In an interview with The Miami Herald, Quigley said Elwood's personality compensated for his looks.

"Elwood's all over the Internet and people love him and adore him," she said.
