A woman was making coffee in the kitchen of her daughter's New Jersey home Sunday morning when she looked out the window and found herself face to face with a 211-pound black bear. Lorraine Grossman's shocked scream was enough to send the bear scurrying up a 40-foot-tall tree.

"I was making a pot of coffee, and I turned around and there he was in the window looking at me," Grossman said, according to AP. "For a minute I didn't realize there was a glass between him and me."

"I think he was just as scared as I was," the New Jersey Star Ledger quotes her as saying.

The bear, which was estimated to be 2 or 3 years old, stayed up in the tree while about 50 neighbors gathered around to watch. At one point, it endeared itself to its audience by letting out a yawn.

"He's really kind of cute," the AP reported neighbor Joanne Penaluna said. "I really had no idea they were such climbers."

The bear remained in the tree until it was shot with a tranquilizer dart and dropped into a net set up below.

"It's not something you get to see every day," said Pete Samek, who was with his 5-year-old daughter, Lucy Rose. "Bears falling out of trees."
