Thousands gathered in North Dakota over the weekend in an attempt to break the world record for making the most snow angels. More than 8,900 people were at the state Capitol Saturday to make the angels and reclaim the record.

North Dakota held the original snow angel record that was set in 2002 with 1,791 snow angels. But last year, Michigan took the record away with 3,784. So, North Dakota planned a comeback.

The competition was originally slated for earlier in the winter, but a lack of snow caused a delay.

Michigan though is not being deterred. They say once North Dakota's world record is verified, they're going to organize again and try and beat it.
