School authorities at Northport High School in New York apologized after two high school seniors included quotations from Adolf Hitler's book -- "Mein Kampf" next to their high school yearbook pictures.

Irene McLaughlin, the school's principal apologized for allowing the books to go out without editing the comments. School authorities admitted they read the quotes before the books were released.

However the students were able to have their words published without incident. Christopher Koulermos, 18, picked "Strength lies not in defense, but in attack," while Philip Compton, another 18-year-old senior chose, "The great masses of people ... will more easily fall victims to a big lie than to a small one."

The district will send out apology messages to parents later this week. School authorities did not specify whether they will sanction the two students involved. Compton's father told the AP he believed his son was more interested in the quote and not the original author when he picked it.
