A Pennsylvania firm that monitors peer-to-peer file sharing networks has discovered that sensitive information about the U.S. presidential helicopter have been transferred to a computer in Iran.
Employees of the Cranberry Township-based Tiversa found engineering and communications information about Marine One at an IP address in Tehran. The file was traced back to its source, a defense contractor in Bethesda, Maryland.
The transfer apparently occurred because the computer containing the Marine One information, including its construction cost, had a file-sharing program on it, according to Tiversa CEO Bob Boback. The program, which is used for exchanging music online, allows other PC users to access the hard drives of other computers.
The government has been notified and is taking the necessary precautions, said Boback.
