Controversy arose in an Ohio town when a church posted something unusual on their marquee.
It read, "I kissed a girl and I liked it, then I went to hell." It was in reference to a song by Katy Perry that was popular earlier this summer, but many had never heard of the song, so they were understandably confused.
Others were reportedly surprised by the overt message of the non-acceptance of homosexuals by the church, but the church's pastor, Rev. Dave Allison told reporters that the Bible teaches that homosexuality is sinful, and the sign was a message to teens about the consequences of certain behaviors. Allison added that the message was a "loving" reminder that teens should not "go that way."
Equality Ohio told an NBC affiliate that there are over 300 churches in Ohio that are accepting of gay and lesbian parishioners. Allison told the same affiliate that he would accept homosexuals in his church, but would know they were engaged in sinful behavior.
The sign was up for 24 hours, and was taken down Thursday.
