In an attempt to collect life insurance policies and earn more money, an owner of an Ohio funeral home filed false death certificates of the people.

Police charged Brent Peters, owner of the Mader-Peters Funeral Home in Circleville, Ohio for filing false certificates of many people; some of them even alive. State officials are currently going through death certificates filed in recent years to determine if any of the supposed deceased are still alive.

According to the Columbus (Ohio) Dispatch, the Ohio Board of Embalmers and Funeral Directors blame Peters for stealing $700,000 in last ten years by using two methods.

Peters misused money from prepaid accounts and then provided less expensive services than clients had paid for. He also asked for burial expenses for clients who had not yet died. The matter came into picture after a former employee complained about a false death certificate.
