A 14-year-old Akron, Ohio boy caught an alligator while fishing in Summit Lake on Sunday. Anthony Greer had hopes of luring a few bass while fishing, but the teen ended up with a more than four-foot alligator.

The eighth-grader said the gator came out of the water and then lunged at him, the Akron Beacon Journal reported.

"His mouth opened up. He would have bit me,'' Anthony told the Journal. ''I had to hit him [on the head] with a brick.''

Anthony then carried the dead gator home by the tail. Neighbors and friends stopped him along the way to catch a glimpse at the unusual catch.

The manager of living collections at the Akron Zoo, Pete Mohan, examined pictures of that gator, which he said could have been poached or stolen. He suggested the reptile may have come from a pet shop or an alligator farm, the UPI reported.

Despite his moment of fear, Anthony is excited for the unexpected fishing memento.

''I want to get this thing stuffed,'' he said. ''I didn't plan on catching an alligator.''
