One of the oldest Bibles will be available on the Internet, starting Thursday, a German university said Tuesday. Written on calfskin and discovered by a German researcher nearly 200 years ago, the half-finished text will become available for online readers, the University of Leipzig Library said.
The University of Leipzig Library director said the half complete Bible was discovered in a waste basket by a German scholar. Liepzig University Library Director Ulrich Johannes Schneider said readers would be able to study the manuscript which has great importance to Christians.
The Codex Sinaiticus was discovered in the 1800's in a monastery along Egypt's Sinai Peninsula and contains the semi-complete Jewish Old Testament and New Testament. The Codex Sinaiticus and Codex Vatinacus are the two oldest copies of the Bible known to exists.
