The oldest mother to give birth at age 66 three years ago has died from cancer leaving her twin boys orphaned.

Spanish Carmen Bousada died from cancer on Saturday, her brother told a local newspaper. The cancer was detected after she gave birth to Christian and Pau in Barcelona in December 2006 and the disease worsened because of the fertility drugs she took to conceive.

A California fertility clinic performed in vitro fertilization on Bousada after she misled doctors about her age. The procedure is usually not applicable to women her age but she convinced doctors that she was qualified to undergo the procedure by telling them she was 55 years old.

The twin babies are under the care of her family.
