A series of ten-pound notes with blank print on the reverse are selling for $528 on eBay.
According to a local paper, the Bank of England accidentally circulated up to 40 of the one-sided notes, although it clarifies the notes are still considered as legal tender.
Chris Phillips, 27, of South Shields, claims he got one of the notes when he went to a cash-point.
"They're selling for crazy money," said Phillips.
