A man from New Jersey has foiled an attempt by an 18-year-old online chatter from California to take his own life and alerted police, who located him with minor injury.

The unnamed teen from Sacramento was brought to a hospital Tuesday to treat razor cuts in his forearm after local police located him using only his name and cell phone number given to them by Jesse Coltrane, 21, of Camden.

Coltrane told investigators that he barely knew the teen, who contacted him online via the social networking site MySpace.com on Monday night.

During their chat using a Webcam, the teen told Coltrane he will kill himself because of depression. Coltrane tried to talk the teen out of committing suicide by calling him by phone and talking to him via the AOL instant messenger.

The online chat lasted several hours until Tuesday morning, when the teen started cutting himself with a razor. Coltrane promptly called the Sacramento police, who traced the teen's home using his cell phone number and name.

Police found the boy in fine condition when they arrived at his home within three hours. The teen apparently changed his mind about killing himself.
