A fawn who was orphaned just after its miraculous birth Sunday is reportedly doing fine at the home of a wildlife conservationist. The fawn, which has a brown coat and white mottles, was born Sunday after its mother who was pregnant with twin fawns tried to jump over a metal fence but was pierced.

A homeowner called the Des Moines Animal Control to remove the carcass not knowing that the baby had fallen out of the doe's sliced womb. When Animal Control officers arrived, they found the weak fawn lying on the ground, still alive.

"It was pretty terrible. It breaks your heart." Tristin Bauer, Des Moines Animal Control officer told the Des Moines Register. Officials turned to a local wildlife rehabilitator Terry Jones for help, who agreed to take care of the fawn at her own expense.

Jones, who has not yet named the fawn, told the paper that it was being fed on a special formula and has started showing instincts. "But, you never know. It's wildlife. When you put them in a different place it's hard to know if they are going to make it or not," she explains.
